My Jewellery Trends for the Moment; Whats In

Purely for the sake of research and keeping up to date with what's in, these are my latest observations from my most recent shopping trips and an idea of what I am going to be working on in the next several months.

Spring-Summer 2008

I will be working on...

Quality (Always!)...one of a kind and limited edition jewellery

Just think...you are the only person in the entire world who has that piece of jewellery.

I've experienced this from a different standpoint -- the ONLY 'label' I am into is a handbag maker from Barcelona called 'Lupo' - I am so addicted its the only bag I will use - they are top quality, well designed, amazingy unusual and they never go out of style. If I had a pound for every time someone has admired one I own I'd be out there buying four more (!!) - (but I digress -- its about good design, and that is what I hope to to concentrate on - I want your handmade jewellery to last - I want it to be something you will wear and love and want to hand down to the next generation, I would love it to be a jewellery equivalent of 'Lupo'. So, great plug for THAT brand, hmmm?

This year for summer I am going to be looking at delicate wiring, structural work of interlinked beads (ladders, lacework etc) AND with the price of precious metals being what they are I am thinking of using more textiles in my work - silk, leather, lace....its all got to be more affordable than gold and silver which has HIT THE ROOF. Eeeek. Gemstones, Swarovski....antique glass....all the goodies I have been hoarding for ever.

Handmade Silver and Gold Charms, Pendants, Rings and Stuff

I am looking forward to designing and making some hand-cast and self-made charms, links and pendants....when I have produced something worth telling the world about I will announce it in the Journal! I will probably burn the studio down in the process but hey, its all good fun.

Bronze/Brass

Precious metals - silver, gold - even copper --- are at an all time high in terms of costs - bronze and brass may be an interesting way to go though I hesitate because these are metals I have never worked with....I may try some small pieces and see what everyone thinks.
